Body:	<i>I consider Allen a good friend though we have not physically seen each other since high school. He kept in touch with his (salacious and funny) jokes and cartoons and I with my reply asking about his family. I knew of his children, a son who loved sailing with him and a daughter in England (as mine is right now). I knew of his love for his former wife who was ill with something I knew about and I could offer my insights. We were good friends in high school though after graduation our paths separated. I consider that he IS (present tense) a good friend because of the depth of sadness I feel right now knowing that there won't be any more jokes in my inbox, and that our perfunctory invitations to 'come down/up and see me when you're in town' can not be accepted any more. We are 74 now, an age when friends die and should not surprise us. That doesn't mean, however, that we don't still need to weep when someone we loved is no longer here.
