Thinking that it is exactly a year until our 50th reunion. Living in HP now is very different than growing up in the small town in which we lived as kids. No Garnetts, Gsells, or Fells to our sadness but lots of outdoor cafes, locally owned boutiques, & a much more ethnically diverse student population at HPHS.
What are some of your favorite memories?
I remember open houses, Student Union, and hanging at Strike & Spare bowling alley. Also Scornavacco's after basket ball games. Not many places to go in those days!
Painting windows uptown for Homecoming! So fun and creative. Driving downtown to Chicago on dates to here, like, Muddy Waters and such?!!! Ravinia. Swimming at the beach and at least one great bonfire party there at night. Dancing 'too close' and being reprimanded. Dropping my tray in the cafeteria....what could be worse for a freshman new to town? Finally having my 'group' to sit with at lunch. Decorating for dances. Shopping for prom dress. Doing Hall Duty and having to cross my legs appropriately. Gym class and showers.
I have wonderful memories of HS snake dances were awesome, painting the store windows at homecoming, being a cheerleader and majorette, dancies with Bill Hansen. getting the Girl with the Most School Spirit.
My homelife was falling apart and school was hard because of it. Thanks to Roberta Shine (since deceased who I kept in touch with for years) and my friends I hung in there and graduated. AND worked my way through college and became a wonderful teacher myself being significant in the lives of many children including my own.
