Several of us have wondered about contacting a teacher who influenced us greatly when we were at that 'formative stage' so we could offer a belated but deserved 'Thanks.' Others have wondered about contacting a classmate and old friend whose contact information is not on the 'Contact Classmates' section of this website.
Now's your chance to get some help and to give some help.
--If you're trying to contact a teacher or classmate you cannot locate, write me and I'll do what I can and will ask others if necessary.
--Take a look at the list of classmates we have not been able to locate. Click 'Contact Classmates' at the top of the page. Then scroll down the list, looking at the classmates flagged as 'Missing.' If you have contact information for any of them, please let me know.

I was asked about Mr./Mrs. Hoffman by their daughter. She gave me their email address which is posted in the 'Do you remember our teachers Bill Garrigan and Marcia Hoffman?' thread along with several student comments.
Remarks:
Mr. Garrigan responds to emails but has not been active on our message board.
Requestor and date:
Don Nathan, searching for homeroom teacher, 4/27/14
Response date:
04/28/14
Successful?
Not yet. As Don observed, this name is far too common for simple searches. A LinkedIn profile indicating HPHS in career history would have been helpful. Our generation often has such a profile, but our teachers' generation rarely does.

Determined that her name was Helen Palmer from a 1964 online yearbook.
Found this genealogy website which gives her full name as Helen Mar Palmer (possibly a typo for Helen Mary Palmer): http://iagenweb.org/boards/allamakee/biographies/index.cgi?read=139228 She was born in 1933, so she is twelve years older than we are. The webpage, written in 1988, indicates that she was still teaching at that time, 25 years after we graduated. I contacted both the compiler and the maintainer of this web page. Each was unable to help.
She doesn't appear in the Social Security Death Index, so is probably still alive at age 80.
Unfortunately this name is too common for easy searching. There are 40 Helen Palmers in Chicagoland and 150 on LinkedIn. The two English teachers on LinkedIn are too young and not located in the US.

Joan Gatewood Upshaw is looking for Martin Haberland, choir director 04/28/14
Response date:
04/28/14
Successful?
Yes
Searcher/Finder:
Larry Marks
Remarks:
There are fewer than a dozen Martin Haberlands in the US. We are 68 years old or so. Our instructors should have been at least 4-5 years older than we are. Of the US Martin Haberlands, we can eliminate the 41- and 46-year-olds. That leaves Martin J. Haberland, age 79.
One source claims he has lived in four different places: N. Forest Drive in Lake Zurich, IL; N. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago; College Ave. in Racine, WI; and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Another source gives the Florida address as
659 Kensington Pl
Wilton Manors, FL 33305-3914
and the phone number as
954-563-6106
This source does identify Highland Park, IL as a prior residence.
Currently waiting to hear from Joan about making contact.

Rose Boghasen just died about a month ago. Â Age 95 or something close to that. Â By far my favorite teacher.
Chris Marder also asked about Rose Boghasen. She had been responding to his emails up until a year ago.
I could not find any indication that Rose had died. Nothing in the obituaries or the Social Security Death Index (although it sometimes takes a while to get updated).
I found three addresses for her. She had lived on Clifton Ave. in Sunset Terrace for some time, but sold an interest in the house to a relative in September 2011 and may be living in an apartment in Lake Forest.
I've put Chris and Jerry in communication and maybe they will determine Rose's current status.
I've forwarded a link to the Tribune obit to both of you. The spelling of her name is a big different, but it is she. The comments are written by several teachers on the faculty at HPHS. The Highland Park and Lake Forest addresses should be answered by this. She did live in Evanston, for a while, and took the train to Highland Park. Never owned a car and was famous around town for walking everywhere. Some years ago, after a heart attack and successfully completing a cardiac rehab program at Highland Park Hospital, she invited Gail (my wife) and me to a dinner sponsored by the rehab department. She said she would 'change your grade' if I didn't come. A great sense of humor, a wonderful woman and a big influence on me.

Judy Carmichael Rundell‎ -- Facebook posting07/15/2015 at 6:39am --
For those who had him as a teacher, Bob Carmichael passed in his home last night to a place where Alzheimer's can no longer destroy his mind.
He's likely showing all of heaven how to explode bubbles, turn water to wine, then milk, or how a blonde and brown hair twist in a pool of water.
I don't know if this is helpful but I am married to Robert Carmichaels daughter Cathy. Unfortunately Bob passed last Tuesday from Alzheimers. His wife Virginia still fairly healthy and would be sure to hear from his students. Norm

My name is Elizabeth Oplatka. I am the niece of Rose Boghasen. Reports of Rose's death are erroneous. She is living in Lake Forest, in assisted living, at Lake Forest Place. I'm certain that Rose would welcome your calls, written messages, and visits there.
Rose is doing very well given that she will be 99 in February. The reports of Rose's death appear to coincide with the death of her youngest sister, Aroxie (Boghasen) Feldman, also a powerhouse of an educator and community activist.
If you have questions about Rose or would like to contact her, please feel free to send me an e-mail at eoplatka@gmail.com
