I’m returning to HP after 50 years, and would love to have the kind of exchange I never felt possible back then: conversations with you, my classmates, about who we were, and how HPHS influenced us as we moved into the tumult of the 1960’s, and beyond.
Timing-wise, I’m thinking the only do-able time would be Saturday afternoon after the elementary school visits. Is that right?
I'm game. Â But I think the topic digs deeper than high school.
I'm sure you're right, Jerry. And deeper than a few hours on a Saturday afternoon! But I'm hoping/figuring it will be worth some conversation anyway. I'm glad you're game!
I missed last night's chat, but it appears that no one went on line to chat, so apparently the message board works, but not the chat, which is fine. Boston Marathon was on my mind last night - my nephew was 25.4 miles when the bomb went off - thankfully he and all his friends involved in the race were fine.
Anyway, back to philosoply, I'm OK with Saturday and would offer my house as I'm hosting a grammar school brunch anyway. I've already realized how interesting some of my classmates have become after 50 years..... including ones I didn't really know.
It's not crazy to use the message board as a vehicle in the mean time.
I'm so glad you're going to be participating, Bill. Let's see if a venue in Highland Park presents itself. If not, I'm guessing your living room would be a lovely place to have a good conversation. Thanks so much for offering it ~ Ricky
Dear Billy and Ricky:
I think I qualify for one of the 'longest'. Anyway, I would like to add to the mix of greatest influence, a Lincoln School teacher - Mrs. Ratz (5th grade) and any other teacher one might wish to add. As anyone lucky enough to have had Mrs. Ratz knows, she was truly unique. She had more influence on me than any other teacher that I've had - university and grad school included - from advanced math to my love of dogs and just about anything in between. I'll save the specifics for the discussion group.
And the Philosopher's Cafe has been held, with over 20 in attendance. Thanks, Ricky, for this wonderful opportunity to share our stories in a deeper way. Hope it becomes a fixture and even continues online somehow.
